CBC's MarketPlace recently aired an episode where they posed the question: The materials in them are downright cheap. Even crafting the lenses is hardly labour-intensive. So why are prescription eyeglasses so darned expensive?  Tom Harrington focuses in on the outrageously high price of spectacles...

Marketplace purchased comparable single vision glasses from a local LensCrafters store and online from ClearlyContacts.ca.

Their Findings on Price:

After a 30% sale at LensCrafters the online glasses were still hundreds of dollars cheaper.

Their Findings on Quality:

The online glasses were as well made as those from LensCrafters.

According to a professor of optometry the online glasses fit better even after two adjustments of the LensCrafters glasses.
